Time in Costa Rica has been very sweet so far. My team and I are on this organic farm where we work in the mornings before the rain comes. Typically, the rain comes around 11am and will go from sprinkling to pouring in about 30 seconds and we are unable to work the rest of the day.
One of the things that we are doing in the farm is taking care of the plant beds in and out of the greenhouse. I am the last person to have a green thumb. We are learning how these God principles are used on this farm to produce veggies and more for a family and the community.
Today consisted of pulling weeds. In the midst of pulling the weeds I heard the sweet voice of the Lord whisper to my heart that He is pulling the weeds out of our lives. His children are so precious to Him. He cares about each and every one of us. He takes the time to walk us through different seasons. When we spend time with Him, getting to know Him intimately, He is graciously and mercifully pulling the weeds from our lives.
Weeds are tricky things. If you do not pull them up by the root they will grow back really quickly. There are things in our lives that are like that too. Struggles that we have tried time and time again to quit on our own but without the help from our Heavenly Father they just keep popping back up. Weeds also do not always look like weeds. It is hard to tell what is a weed versus what’s an actual plant. I know that there are times in my life that things that I think are fruitful is something the Lord is actually working out and bringing me out of. That there is pain and struggles will continue to arise as we walk with the Lord but that He is going to take care of them.
It is necessary for Him to pull the weeds from our lives in order that we continue to grow. If left unchecked, then the weeds would overpower the actual plant taking all the water and nutrients away. Leaving the plan lifeless while the weeds are flourishing.
Never would I imagine that God would reveal more of his character in the middle of pulling weeds, but He speaks to us in many ways. So thankful for His love and kindness that He choose me. That He is choosing to get His hands in the dirt and pull the weeds of sin out of my life. That He moves my heart and that the Holy Spirit convicts me to look more towards my Heavenly Father than the world.
As the saying goes in Costa Rica: Pura Vida!
Very well written Alex! I love the analogy and the picture of God down in the dirt with us, pulling weeds from our hearts. Thank you. I love how Jesus is growing you!
